29.11.2008 | Mozambique keen to partner with Isles in tourism drive.. ..Back
By Assah Mwambene, Zanzibar

The visiting Mozambican Prime Minister, Luisa Dias Diogo, has called for improved relations with Tanzania, saying Mozambique has a lot to learn from Zanzibar's improved tourism infrastructure. The Mozambican Prime Minister made the call when speaking to Zanzibar President Amani Abeid Karume at the State House in Unguja's West Urban region.

Madam Luisa said her country would be more than ready to co-operate with Zanzibar in various sectors saying top of it was tourism sector.

She added that the Isles had made remarkable strides in improving the sector's infrastructure.

"I have had some time to shuttle around this Island. You seem to have made a remarkable improvement in the tourism infrastructure," the Mozambican PM told the Zanzibar President.

She said she believed that the record improvement in the sector was a product of the good and able leadership of the Zanzibar government under President Karume.

The Mozambican PM also said that she cherishes the relations between the people of the two countries since time immemorial. She said they should be sustained for the benefit of the people.

President Karume said Zanzibar was proud of the relations with Mozambique, calling on the current leadership to sustain it by encouraging investment through the private sector from both sides. He noted that trade between the two sides was still flourishing.

While in Zanzibar, the PM visited the Kizimbani Spice farm in West Urban region and the Slave market at Mkunazini within the stone town before visiting the graveyard of the founding father of Zanzibar at Kisiwandui CCM, the late Abeid Amani Karume and the former FRELIMO freedom fighters camp.
